Tales from L5P....

I may do this ocassionally, if it's funny stuff like this. We'll see...

Picture this: three volunteers wearing their volunteer outfits and everything, so uniformity is kind of there, walking through the Junk Man's parking lot...one volunteer is a hippie looking chic that's got a backpack on with food and clothes and other, various, volunteering items. The other two peeps are totally punk rock, tattooed, pierced, etc., and beautiful. We're on the look out for what we seek. Observation mode. I spot the weird scene of a scruffy, slightly overweight, middle aged, flanel-wearing, baseball hat-sporting, looking to be chewing tobacco perhaps, guy in a beat up old pontiac with what appears to be his father sitting shotgun. Old guy, white hair, glasses, kinda squinting and looking around...they both seem to be waiting for someone.

We finally start to cross their path. I'm making eye contact, I'm curious. The guy calls out to us "Hey"...we divert towards the car a bit, but not that close. Driver's seat guy goes "do ya'll know where the Twist concert is?". The male volunteer and I look at each other puzzled, b/c of course, we think we know where every concert is, and want to help these guys. Male volunteer goes "do you know what venue it's at? I could probably tell you where that is?" and I agree, and am looking intently at the driver guy for an answer. Driver guy "no, I don't...never mind, thanks anyway"...

We walk off down the street wondering WTF(?); as we're waiting for a light to change it hits me and I go "Dude, that guy was *totally* trying to buy weed from us!"...."maybe for Dad's glacoma"...and then we really wanted to help, but all we had in the bag was food and stuff, and it was volunteer time and all. I so couldn't hook that up anyway...

I hope that you got your bag 'redneck guys in the pontiac', coming to little five to score! God love ya...

I can't decide what part of that story made me laugh...

you guys Volunteering in L5P ( the place where the homeless people arn't disadvantaged... they just choose to live that way...why not go to an actually depressed community where people actually need help? seriously. those same shady street characters have been in L5P since I moved here... they're not still their because nobody ever reached out to them...) or they clueless guys thinking its 1993 and they can just score a bag in the square.

but yes; that is a funny story!

        X!!!!!!

So, ah, yeah, I hear you on the choices that people have/make but we do L5P for fun basically. It's a great time. I love your hood. There are also some rather young homeless/at risk youth that hang out there and that's who we serve - 21 and under.

For real hard core homeless stuff we do downtown Atl the next night.

Two nights a week is a bit much, but I'll be adding West End at some point (there has been talk anyway).

Where else should we go? People mention Bankhead a lot....where were you thinking of?

I'm SOOOO glad you liked the story!

          OOOOHHH!!

Speaking of L5P me and Lew went to the "raw foods cult" (as we call it) yesterday and that place so rocks! Brenda Cobb is totally possesed. I didn't buy anything though...thank goodness, I had to actually go out in the parking lot and call friends to talk me down, I want that BLENDER!!! I saw a girl there, in the seminar too, that I had worked with, like, 10 years ago...and so we reconnected. I don't have the money to see chappelle this wknd who is my FAVORITE (we were doing 'affirmations', and, sure, why not, I'll play...when we got to "I am rich" I said "I am rich beotch" and I was saying them the loudest - trust me) but anyway she *may* try to hook it up for me, cuz she's doing all three shows (we'll see) SUZ loves a 'coincidence' and David Chappelle!!! HOLLA!

to be honest I don't know where the street kids are nowadays. I just never see them in L5P.

I remember L5P when there were kids there... but now its all old drunks. All the kids I see in L5P got off the train from the suburbs and are sporting Brand new Clothes from the Mall.

I don't know where yopu could go to find them... I'm just sayin. I never see any kids about the neighborhood that arn't residents or Rich kids.

True, and you live there (I think anyway)....no homeless kids in L5P. BUT, funny stories for sure, and that's good enough for me mister!

We weren't all homeless - some of us had boxes or squats; some of us even pooled our pennies and rented fire-traps.

              Good times.

ah the squat and firtraps of yesteryear...

when spare changing was street performance, not harrassment.

when you could sit on the ledge of a Garden planter in the square.

and everyone you knew had a bag; and so there was little need to do shady deals in public places.

                good times indeed.

LOL Don't ever buy or let anyone buy any kind of drugs in Little 5; you'd be lucky even to find real crappy weed. That is a good story though, I love it when normies try and get in on our freak kingdom, bless their stereotypical little hearts.

Or perhaps some dried oregano, in case you're just that stupid and daddy's eyes are really bugging. My homeless peeps are nothing, if not enterprising...light it on your fire trap, but hit it good - that stuff goes up quick!
